Hats Off: 19-Year-Old With Autism Lands A Scholarship For His Honest Cover Letter
Jeff & Aimee are tipping their hats to an amazing 19-year-old teen!
Ryan Lowry from Leesburg, Virginia, wrote an honest cover letter to his future employers and about having autism.
“I realize that someone like you will have to take a chance on me, I don’t learn like typical people do,” read Lowry’s cover letter.”I would need a mentor to teach me, but I learn quickly, once you explain it, I get it. I promise that if you hire me and teach me, you’ll be glad that you did.”
He posted the cover letter to his LinkedIn account where it eventually went viral and caught the eye of David Siegel, executive director of Exceptional Minds. It’s an academy and studio for artists and animators with autism.
“We see it every day with our students and our graduates…what makes you different makes you extraordinary,” Siegel told CBS News. “And what [Lowry] did stood out to myself as the leader of this organization and frankly everyone that’s part of our team here as truly something extraordinary.”
Lowry’s cover letter would earn him a scholarship from Exceptional Minds!
