Hats Off: Woman Gives Up Her Vaccine Appointment To Stranger Who Needed Heart Surgery
Jeff & Aimee are giving a Hats Off to a woman in Texas!
Grandmother Emily Johnson, from Austin, Texas, was in need of the COVID-19 vaccine going into her open-heart surgery, according to ABC.
After facing roadblocks preventing her from getting the vaccine she turned to her neighbors on the website Nextdoor.
“Hello Neighbors! I am a 68-yr-old female facing open-heart surgery,” read Johnson’s message. “My doctors here in Austin have no access to the vaccine, so I have been spending up to an hour each morning, putting my name on lists and making dozens of phone calls. Has anyone out there heard anything or have a suggestion to make?”
Johnson would then get help from an unlikely stranger.
“You need this much more than I do. If you can make this appointment, it’s yours,” read Chrisy Lewis’ message to Johnson.
Lewis was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease on January 8th, thus qualifying her for the vaccine. The two would then go to the vaccine appointment together only to receive more exciting news.
The managing supervisor heard both of the women’s stories and decided to vaccinate both of the women that day!
