Hats Off: Waitress Saves Child Abuse Victim With A ‘Do You Need Help?’ Note
Jeff & Aimee are giving a Hats Off to a waitress who stepped up to save a boy’s life!
On New Year’s Day waitress Flavaine Carvalho was serving guests at Mrs. Potato in Orlando, Florida. While taking care of customers she noticed a family walking in and ordering their food.
Carvalho noticed that the parents were eating except for their eleven-year-old boy. When Carvalho asked if there’s something wrong with the food the man replied that the boy was going to eat dinner later at home, according to Fox 35.
Even though the boy wasn’t eating dinner she immediately knew something was wrong.
“I could see he had a big scratch between his eyebrows,” said Carvalho in a press conference. “Couple of minutes later, I saw a bruise on the side of his eye. So I felt there was something really wrong.”
After seeing the boy in distress, Carvalho got the attention of the boy and showed him a sign reading ‘Do You Need Help?’. The boy nodded so she immediately called the authorities.
According to the boy, the stepfather had been allegedly abusing the boy. The boy had been allegedly tied up, hit with a broomstick, hung on a door and was denied food as punishment, according to Fox 35.
The stepfather was arrested with one count of third-degree child abuse. The boy’s mother was also arrested and charged with two counts of Child Neglect.
The boy and another 4-year-old child have been removed from their house and are in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Hats Off to Carvalho for stepping up to help this young boy!
