Hats Off: Secret Santa Gives 400 Families A $250 Gift Card & A Poem
Jeff & Aimee are giving a huge Hats Off to a secret Santa in Canada!
On Christmas Eve, residents in Edmonton’s Alberta Avenue neighborhood woke up to a $250 Walmart gift card and a poem left on their doorstep.
“It was just very heartwarming and touching that someone would do that,” said Elisha Tennant in a CBC interview. “To have something like this, I mean, that’s a month of groceries for us.”
The poem gave inspiration to others and to ‘pass the baton’ if the person didn’t need the $250 gift card.
It read “Whatever it is that you set out to do, remember to just believe in you. Don’t need this? Please pass the baton, for that is the way hope carries on.”
Christina Ignacio-Deines was one of those families that didn’t need the gift card. Although the event planner has been out-of-work, her family has been able to make ends meet with her husband’s income.
Ignacio-Deines then donated the gift card to the non-profit Bissell Centre, which helps anyone struggling with poverty.
With news of the secret Santa spreading, CBC ended up tracking them down. The secret Santa requested to remain a friendly secret.
“I hope the gifts gave people a sense that the world is good and there is a brighter future not far ahead.”
