Hats Off: Little Girl’s Heartbreaking Note To Santa About COVID-19 Goes Viral
Today’s Hats Off is one that is truly heartbreaking about what our kids are going through.
8-year-old Kourtney Wood, from the UK, wrote a pleading letter to Santa Claus about the pandemic.
“All I would like for Christmas is for the world to go back to normal,” read Kourtney’s letter. “I don’t know if you can do that but if you can’t do that it is OK. I don’t mind if I have nothing, I do have everything, well, I do have everything I need. Thank you.”
Kourtney’s mother, Samantha Dicken, found the letter last month when she was cleaning out Kourtney’s room, according to TODAY Parents.
“I was absolutely gobsmacked,” said Dicken in a statement. “I knew she’d been struggling with lockdown and COVID. But it really hit me when I saw it on paper.”
In years past, Kourtney has asked for tablets and regular toys. However, this year was very different.
“Now she just wants her old life,” said Dicken. “It was just heartbreaking.”
After posting the heartbreaking letter to the “Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas” Facebook group page it immediately went viral. Over 15,000 likes on the post and countless supportive comments for Kourtney and her mom Samantha.
“Kourtney now knows that lots of people feel the same way she does,” said Dicken. “She’s sleeping well again and doesn’t need the light on anymore. She lets us shut her bedroom door. It’s given her a needed boost.”
