Marshawn Lynch Will Avoid Jailtime In Las Vegas DUI Case
Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, known for his powerful presence on the field, will avoid jailtime. Lynch, who was facing DUI charges in Las Vegas, has taken a plea deal, according to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Here’s Why Marshawn Lynch Was In Trouble
The incident leading to the charges occurred in August 2022. That’s when police found Lynch asleep at the wheel of his vehicle. Police say they detected the smell of alcohol. The vehicle was discovered in a position suggesting it had been driven onto a sidewalk, with noticeable damage to its tire rims. However, according to a News 3 article, the keys were on Lynch himself and not the ignition.
Lynch’s defense team has consistently maintained that the available evidence fails to conclusively establish that Lynch was driving under the influence at the time of his arrest, as we reported from an earlier article about Lynch’s arrest.
The Charges Will Be Lowered
Lynch was set to start trial today, but avoided it by taking a plea deal. Instead, the charges will be lowered to reckless driving. But the former NFL running back needs to do a few things first. Lynch will need to: complete DUI school, a victim panel and pass an alcohol evaluation. He will also need to complete two hundred hours of community service AND stay out of trouble for at least the next year. And according to an article from Fox 5, Lynch will also have to pay a fine of $1,140.
As recounted in an arrest report, Lynch appeared to be dozing off during interactions with officers at a traffic stop near Fairfield and Utah avenues. Body camera footage captured him barely responsive to police inquiries. Lynch reportedly exhibited uncooperative behavior, refusing field sobriety tests, which officers were unable to administer.
Marshawn Lynch is mostly known for his time as a Seattle Seahawk, but his legacy in the NFL includes two seasons with the Raiders starting in 2017.
