I-15 Interstate Closing In Las Vegas For Entire Weekend
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding local residents that they are planning an entire closing of the I-15 Interstate in Las Vegas. The closure will happen during President’s Day weekend. As construction crews get back to work on the Dropicana 2.0 project after the busy Super Bowl weekend.
When The I-15 In Las Vegas Will Close And Reopen.
The closure will be begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, February 16 and last until 5 a.m. in the early hours of Monday, February 19. It will include both the northbound and southbound side of the I-15 between Flamingo Road and Russell Road. During the closure, Tropicana Ave at I-15 will undergo a reconfiguration in preparation for the next phase of construction in that area of Las Vegas.

The weekend work will bring a new configuration to the intersection called a diverging diamond interchange. Which is a low cost option for efficiently moving traffic that divergingdiamond.com reports is safer than other forms of interchange.
What’s Next For The Dropicana 2.0 Project
The new interchange will keep traffic flow efficient during the Dropicana 2.0 project’s next phase. Which involves demolishing the south half of the Tropicana Ave bridge over I-15. The demolition is necessary to rebuild a higher and wider bridge, as the current one is not up to modern standards, the NDOT says. In fact, 8newsnow reported that large trucks have hit the bridge because it is so low.
Las Vegas Should Plan For More Traffic Over The Weekend
So over the holiday weekend in Las Vegas, travelers are encouraged to avoid the area of the Spaghetti Bowl and the I-15/215 South Interchange. In addition, travelers should also anticipate more congestion on surface streets, the 215 Beltway, U.S. 95, and I-515. As other motorists will be looking for alternate travel routes.
The NDOT has an app they recommend for keeping up with construction updates around town. It’s called the I-15 Trop app. Updates can also be found at the NDOT website www.i15trop.com.
