Ford Is Trying To Patent A System That Turns Your Car Into A Snitch
Listen, I’ve always been teased by my friends and family for being a safe driver. I’ve been called a “grandpa” because of how I always follow the speed limit. But even I, as one of the safest drivers in Las Vegas, don’t know how I truly feel about the news I just read about – because even I don’t want to be labeled as a snitch! One of the biggest car manufacturers, Ford, is trying to develop a patent that would turn their future vehicles into speed monitors on the roadways. Yes, Ford is trying to patent a system that would automatically report speeding vehicles to the authorities.
Built Ford Tough… On Crime?
According to the website CarScoops, the new patent would use the camera systems in their cars to clock the speed of vehicles around you. So, if you were worried about the system snitching on you, worry not. However, CarScoops thinks the system would primarily be used in squad vehicles, however the patent that Ford is trying to get secured is pretty vague in its language.
Could you imagine? You’re just driving around town, running some errands, and also getting people around you in trouble because your Ford vehicle decides to play traffic cop, snitching on all the speed demons around you, snapping photos and sending them straight to the cops. According to CarScoops, the patent says the system could collect GPS coordinates, speed data, and could even snap photos.
The New Ford Patent Will Most Certainly Be A Cause For Debate
Fox 59, in Indianapolis, also covered the story. According to their reporting, you shouldn’t be too freaked out about your car becoming Big Brother just yet, because Ford hasn’t installed the technology into any of their cars yet. They’re just trying to secure the patent. That being said, you can imagine there will be a lot of legal mumbo jumbo that’ll be cause for debate, because there technically wouldn’t be an actual officer around to witness the speeding.
