Las Vegas Mom Stabs Another Parent After First Day Of School
Two Las Vegas parents have made national news after the first day of school became a crime scene.
According to Fox 5, police arrested a Las Vegas mom 30-year-old Akira Mays after allegedly stabbing another parent.
According to USA Today, the Las Vegas mom, now identified as Mays, picked up her child at Steele Elementary School and attempted to leave her child’s school parking lot. As she tried to merge into another lane, another car blocked her attempt at merging into the lane.
Well, this led to an argument between the two parents. USA Today reports that he made hand gestures and started acting with typical “road rage” mannerisms. This is when the woman pulled alongside him and got out of her vehicle.
Eventually, both parents got out of their cars, and this is when real trouble occurred. USA Today and Fox 5 both report different accounts of what happened.
According to USA Today, “The woman, however, alleged that the man was the aggressor and punched her son first, which led her to pull out a pocketknife and stab him once in the stomach.”
According to Fox 5 , “An argument ensued and eventually Mays’ son punched the man, who pushed the son back, and then Mays took out a knife and stabbed the man, police reported.”
Either way, the argument led a man being stabbed. What was suppose to be a joyous “first day of school” ended with the man going to UMC Trauma for surgery.
Fox 5 reports that Mays was released without bond. However, there are conditions, which are Mays must stay out of trouble, she must not have any weapons and she must make no contact with the alleged victim. Mays’ hearing is set for Sept. 7.
This is a good reminder to never escalate a road rage situation. If you find yourself frustrated with another driver’s actions, do not return any gestures or honking. Hackensack Meridian Health also suggests to never leave your car.
“If an aggressive driver gets out of their car and tries to confront you, stay in your car with the doors locked and the windows rolled up,” their website states.
The main thing to focus on is driving away safely.
