Would the NFL Allow Tom Brady to Own and Play for the Raiders?
UPDATE: Today, Tom Brady clarified that he is not coming out of retirement.
Would would have thought that we would go into the 2023 Raiders season talking about Tom Brady? But, Tom Brady Raiders rumors are everywhere.
It’s true. Buzz is swirling that the superstar quarterback could somehow not only own part of the Raiders but also play for the team. But, is that even possible? Would the NFL allow that kind of synergy?
Tom Brady Raiders Rumors
Sure, Brady playing quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 sounds crazy. But, it would be allowed, according to the NFL. A league spokesperson confirmed to TMZ Sports that Brady could play on the field for the Raiders even as a part owner of the team. That would happen only if it was agreed to by a consensus of the other NFL owners.
TMZ Sports reports, “Two NFL-wide votes would need to happen in order for Brady to be a part of the Las Vegas ownership group and be under center at the same time.”
So, to make it happen, Brady would have to get approval from three-fourths of the league owners, which is 24 of 32, and be finalized as a part-owner of the Raiders. That proposal would have to be submitted to the NFL for review. Then, he would need to get approval from three-fourths of the owners once again to get permission to play for the Raiders. That seems really complicated. It’s not worth it, Brady. Just enjoy retirement.
Of course, Brady has not said anything about coming out of retirement again. In fact, the latest is that Brady says that he’s for sure NOT coming out of retirement. But, the rumors are out there. That’s partly because there are rumors that Las Vegas could void Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract if he fails a team physical before the 2023 season begins.
