Olympic Champion Imane Khelif Names Elon Musk And J.K. Rowling In Lawsuit
One of the biggest stories from this year’s Paris Olympics is absolutely the one about Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who clinched the gold medal at the games. But most people know about Imane, because after one of her bouts, a rumor about her actually being a man, and competing as a woman, spread across the internet like wildfire! Well, Imane is making headlines yet again, but this time she’s in the news because she’s named several famous individuals in a lawsuit, because they fed into those rumors. Imane is alleging she was cyberbullied by well-known celebrities like Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling. Imane Khelif Filed The Lawsuit With French Authorities The lawsuit has been filed with French authorities, according to a report by Variety. In the lawsuit, Imane accuses people like Musk and Rowling of engaging in “aggravated cyber harassment.” Imane’s gold medal winning performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been completely overshadowed by rumors about her gender. Many of those rumors circulated on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where numerous celebrities joined in on the topic. J.K. Rowling, who’s no stranger to controversy these days, shared her thoughts with her over 14 million followers. The "Harry Potter" series author posted a photo from Imane’s fight against Italian boxer Angela Carini, and suggested Imane was a man. Rowling said, “...enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head...” https://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1819007216214573268 Elon Musk, swimmer Riley Gaines, and even former President Trump all joined in, according to Variety's reporting. Big Consequences Could Be Coming The lawsuit mentions all these figures, however the lawsuit had to be filed against “unknown persons” in conjunction with French law. Imane’s lawyer says that while the lawsuit mentions specific peoples, they will be aiming to hold more people accountable for the alleged cyberbullying. That means people like Logan Paul, who criticized Imane, but later retracted his statement and apologized could also face some serious consequences. https://twitter.com/LoganPaul/status/1819080702002188783
