Princess Leia Bikini Sold For A Bargain At Hollywood Auction
The iconic Princess Leia bikini just sold at auction, and some anonymous buyer just got a hell of a deal on it. The famous outfit, worn by Carrie Fisher in “Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi”, went for just $175,000. And while that’s not a small chunk of change, this is THE gold bikini. The inspiration behind thousands of Halloween costumes over the years. The focus of so many young mens’ fantasies.
Details About The Princess Leia Bikini Sale
CNN reported that the auction was held by Heritage Auctions. The Dallas-based company’s mission is to level the playing field between novices and experts who want to be collectors. The company’s website says that inexperienced owners of collectables often don’t get what their item is worth. While new collectors often overpay for the same items.
But when it comes to the Princess Leia bikini, $175,000 is a steal. The purchase came complete with seven pieces, including hip rings, and armlet and a bracelet. It’s even more surprising that the outfit didn’t fetch more considering Carrie Fisher passed away in 2016. The outfit came with a signed letter of authenticity and went to an anonymous buyer.
Other Items Sold At The Heritage Auctions Sale
Maybe the Princess Leia bikini only went for $175,000 because Star Wars fans at the auction had their eyes on something else. A model of the Y-Wing starfighter that was used in “Star Wars IV: A New Hope” was, by far, the frontrunner when it came to high-ticket items. It was the focus of a bidding war at the auction, and eventually sold for a staggering $1.55 million.
The Y-Wing is not the highest-earning Star Wars prop to sell at auction. Heritage Auctions sold an X-Wing model for $3.1 million in October 2023, and an R2-D2 unit for $2.76 million in 2017. Making the Princess Leia bikini seem like even more of a bargain, comparatively. But the item did start at $34,000, so it wasn’t without its own fans.
Other items that were sold at the two-day sale include a Harry Potter wand for $94,000, an original Star Trek poster painting for $106,250 and original artwork for “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” for $30,000. Nearly 2,300 bidders participated worldwide and brought in a total of $5,905,986.
