The regular season of the NBA has wrapped up and now, we’re into the playoffs. The teams that didn’t make the NBA Playoffs are already looking ahead to the NBA Draft Lottery and NBA Draft, as they should. Let’s get into the upcoming NBA Draft Lottery and what to expect.
2024 NBA Draft Lottery
The 2024 NBA Draft Lottery, presented by State Farm, will take place on May 12 in Chicago, Illinois. The teams that are able to be part of the Draft Lottery are the 14 teams that didn’t make the NBA Playoffs. “The final odds will be determined at the conclusion of the regular season and once any tie breaks are settled between teams with identical regular season records,” explains NBA.com. In the NBA Draft Lottery, each team is given a certain amount of odds, beginning with the reverse order of regular season record. The default odds for the No. 1 pick, according to NBA.com, are 14% for teams one through three, 12.5% for team four, 10.5% for team five, 9% for team six, 7.5% for team seven, 6% for team eight, 4.5% for team nine, 3% for team 10, 2% for team 11, 1.5% for team 12, 1% for team 13 and 0.5% for team 14. The Pistons and Wizards have the best chance at getting that No. 1 pick in 2024, according to multiple sources.
As for the teams that aren’t in the lottery, “the Draft selections for the remainder of the first round (No. 15-30) and the entire second round (No. 30-58), are determined by reverse order of regular season record,” explains NBA.com. Each NBA team is allowed one selection in the first round and one pick in the second round. They do note that “Phoenix and Philadelphia have each lost a 2024 Draft second round pick due to League penalty.”
