Here’s the catch, according to Fox Sports, the College Basketball Crown will be open to teams who don’t qualify for the big one, the NCAA Tournament. The Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences will have two automatic entries and the remaining slots will be filled by a committee.
You gotta wonder how the National Invitation Tournament, the NIT, is feeling about this! Because you have to imagine that any new tournament will become a major competitor to it. Our UNLV Runnin’ Rebels were in this year’s NIT competition, unfortunately exiting on March 27th against number 1 ranked Seton Hall.
Seton Hall, by the way, will be playing in the championship game against the other number 1 ranked team, Indiana State. That match up will be featured on April 4th, at 4pm on ESPN.

Traditionally, the NIT has held its games in New York City, at the world-famous Madison Square Garden. Last year, they broke away from that tradition and the NIT final four were held here in Las Vegas. However, this year’s championship games are taking place in Indianapolis.
