Keith Urban’s ‘Messed Up’ New Song
Keith Urban debuted his brand new song “Messed Up As Me” at CRS in Nashville this week at the annual UMG luncheon.
Keith told us of the song in a recent interview, “‘Messed Up As Me’ is a song about a relationship that is kind of pretty dysfunctional, pretty messy, except for one part of it, and that one part of it is amazing. In fact, that one part is so good that you figure out just putting up with all the rest that is dysfunctional, possibly toxic (laughs), and just messy.”
He concluded, “Between the two of you, that one thing is well worth it.”
“Messed Up As Me” is produced by Urban and longtime co-producer Dann Huff and follows last month’s release of “Straight Line.” Both are expected to be on Keith’s album, which is slated for release later this year.

Urban has been making records in Nashville, scoring hit songs, and touring for over twenty years, but to him, it’s still all brand new.
Keith told us, “I’m just born of passion and curiosity, hunger, and I’ve always had that.” He explained, “I moved to Nashville a long time ago, and the place that I stayed at… the first hotel I stayed at, the Shoney’s Inn down on Demombruen, is still there; it’s called the Comfort Inn now. I love that in a city that has changed so much, that building is still there, the little motel room that I stayed is still there. It’s this great connect through line for me.”
Urban noted, “I don’t feel that different from when I stayed in that room hoping I could get a record deal, hoping I could get to record music in the studio with great players and maybe get a tour bus one day and hit the road. I still feel exactly the same. It’s an amazing feeling. It keeps it really exciting for me.”
