Keith Urban Still Feels ‘Brand New’ In Nashville
Keith Urban has been making records in Nashville, scoring hit songs, and touring for more than twenty years now, but to him, it’s still all brand new.
Keith told us, “I’m just born of passion and curiosity, hunger, and I’ve always had that.” He explained, “I moved to Nashville a long time ago, and the place that I stayed at… the first hotel I stayed at, the Shoney’s Inn down on Demombruen, is still there; it’s called the Comfort Inn now. I love that in a city that has changed so much, that building is still there, the little motel room that I stayed is still there. It’s this great connect through line for me.”
Urban noted, “I don’t feel that different from when I stayed in that room hoping I could get a record deal, hoping I could get to record music in the studio with great players and maybe get a tour bus one day and hit the road. I still feel exactly the same. It’s an amazing feeling. It keeps it really exciting for me.”

Even looking ahead to something he has done over and over through the years, he grins big and is thrilled with what’s coming next, “I’m thinking about this tour, and I’m so excited to put a set list together. It’s all brand new, making this record is brand new. I’ve never made that record. I’ve made other records, but I’ve never made this one, so it’s brand new.”
He concluded, “The tour is brand new. No matter how many times I’ve done it, I’ve never done the next one. So, that’s how I feel, thank goodness.”
In the same interview, we asked Urban what photos he had on his phone. He told us, “I have lots of videos, obviously lots of family stuff in there. There are lots of cars, trucks, vehicles, and lots of guitars in there. All the things I’m passionate about, that’s really it.”
Keith added, “And then some pretty random stuff, I think. We might be shocked by what we do have on our phones. It may be different from what we say.”
