Keith Urban: Taylor Swift’s 2009 Tour Prank Was ‘So Good’
Keith Urban talked with Jennifer Hudson on her show recently about his 2009 “Escape Together World Tour,” when Taylor Swift was his opening act.
Keith told Hudson, “She was amazing even back then. I would sit up front and watch her sing, and I’m like, ‘Oh, she was singing way off into this other thing.’ You could see it. She was playing way past where she was already. It’s amazing.”
Urban also shared after Jennifer played him a video clip of Swift performing alongside him dressed like a member of the band KISS, which was “a prank” she pulled.
Keith said that at the time, he had a song called ‘Kiss a Girl,’ and it was the last night of the tour. He recalls, “She came out dressed as Ace Frehley from the band KISS. I thought it was KISS for a minute. It was so good.”
Urban also chatted about collaborating with Taylor for the track “That’s When,” which was featured on Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
He said she had a song she wanted him to do. He noted, “She just texted me and said, ‘I have a song that I want you to sing on,’ and I said, ‘Can you send me the song?’ The next minute, she texted me the song.”
Keith recalled adding, “I’m sitting there with my AirPods on listening to this unreleased Taylor song. It was crazy.”

Urban loves this time of year the Christmas season. It’s time to see sparkling lights, hear holiday songs old and new, and await Santa’s arrival on Christmas morning.
Keith told us in a recent interview how he loves this time of year. He said, “The lights going up; the lights, the music, all of that, the house sort of transforming into Christmas. I love it. It’s sad when it all has to go away.”
A few years ago (2019), Urban released a special Christmas song and did a romantic music video for “I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight.”
He told us of the original song, “I wanted to write a song that could kind of just travel anywhere really, I guess, and be also about the sort of the romantic side of this particular Christmas Eve. The idea that this girl is about to have the bleakest Christmas ’cause there’s no, there’s too much fog, there’s no snow, her mom’s not going to be able to make it, her sister can’t come, it’s all going to be a complete mess. And the guy steps up and says it’s gonna happen. ‘I’ll bring the magic.'”
Keith and his family usually spend the holiday in his native Australia with extended family.
