Keith Urban’s Advice to Musical Dreamers
Keith Urban worked on his dream of country music superstardom since he was a child growing up in Australia. After moving to America in the early 1990s, he worked hard and made his dreams a reality.
Keith is often asked about the advice he would give to others trying to make a career out of the music genre they love, and he admits he’s not a fan of the question. He told us, “I always hate giving advice because everyone’s got their own journey, and there’s no rules. That’s number one, there are no rules.”
“That’s really what art is about. Art is about expressing truthfully. And everything they said you shouldn’t do, this person did, and it’s remarkable and unlike anybody else.”
Urban does know there is one thing you cannot be without on your journey to fame, “I do think one constant is having people around you that you really trust, who really have your back, and who are really going, to be honest with you and don’t have agenda pro or con.”
He concluded, “If they are true and you believe them, they can help you stay on track. I think that’s important, and I don’t think that’s ever gonna change.”

The musical superstar’s forthcoming album, High, will be released on September 20. It’s Keith’s first album in four years.
Urban said, “I’ve always been drawn toward the subject of living in the moment because it’s all there is, and it’s hard to do. And these days, with so much ‘content’ flying at us, it can feel like drinking from a fire hose.”
He said of naming the new album, “What makes you ‘high’ can mean whatever you want it to mean. It might be physical, spiritual, herbal, meditative, chemical, or musical, but it’s definitely a place of utopia.”
Keith continued, “For me, it’s my family, my friends, and this rollercoaster musical journey I’m on. Playing guitar, writing songs, and the place where I always feel high – playing live. Every night, I get a chance to bring an energy and a release to people.”
But with the highs come lows, and for Urban, that came back in 2022. “At the time, I was on tour. I’d do a concert, go back to Nashville to record, do a concert, and come back to record, and over again. So, I thought I’d call the album 615. That’d keep me on track – focused and disciplined.”
