La Bonita Supermarket Reopens This Week After 3 Year Hiatus
In a world that so often feels like it’s filled with bad news, stories like this make me happy to share with y’all. The popular supermarket, La Bonita no. 4, on the intersection on Eastern Ave and Desert Inn Road, is making its epic comeback this week!
La Bonita No. 4 Was Devastated By The Windstorms In 2021
If you live on that side of town, you probably remember that the store had to close its doors because of some pretty significant damage it took from the windstorms nearly 3 years ago. According to reporting by the Las Vegas Review Journal, the storm in August of 2021 led to the collapse of part of the building’s front canopy. Four individuals experienced minor injuries and a massive pile of debris was left behind in the building’s parking lot. However, the Las Vegas Review Journal is also reporting that the supermarket’s general manager, Armando Martinez, confirmed that the store will be reopening this Wednesday, June 12th.
Besides having to work with the insurance companies to get things fixed, some other things happened that made reopening later than Martinez wanted. According to Martinez, when construction was progressing towards their original reopening date in 2023, they discovered more problems with the roof and were victims of stolen air conditioners and vandalism. All of this pushed back the construction schedule.
La Bonita Coming Back Means Jobs Are Also Coming Back
According to the LVRJ, Martinez is bringing back 50 former employees and he has successfully hired 150 people at a recent job fair. The 50 former employees were transferred to different locations following La Bonita no. 4’s closure.
And while they’re no longer currently hiring at this location, the next La Bonita expansion is in the works. La Bonita number 8 is set to begin its construction this year, near East Bonanza Rd and North Nellis Boulevard.
