A Fight Between Substitute Teacher And Student Sparks Outrage In Las Vegas
A fight between a substitute teacher and a student at Valley High School, here in Las Vegas, has sparked outrage all across the Las Vegas valley. Rightfully so in my honest opinion!
As a parent, we expect our children to be safe within the walls of their school. They should especially be safe from the people who are in charge of teaching them!
The Fight Between A Substitute Teacher And A Student Was Caught On Camera
A video of the incident surfaced on social media. Perhaps you’ve seen it already. If not, numerous news outlets have shown it, including the Channel 3 reporting that I’ll include below. Please be warned, the video is hard to watch.
According to Channel 3’s reporting, the altercation reportedly started after the student allegedly used a racial slur. However, in my opinion – especially as someone who has received more racial slurs in my direction than I care to admit – it’s not a reason for an adult to fight a child!
The Teacher Has Been Named
The teacher who was involved in the fist fight has been identified at Re’Kwon Smith, a 27-year-old man, who was employed as a substitute teacher by the Clark County School District (CCSD) since Nov of 2023.
By nobody’s surprise, Smith was arrested and is now facing some serious charges! The charges include assault on a school pupil on school property and battery resulting in serious bodily harm to the student.
The CCSD Police Department used the video of the altercation as evidence. It shows Smith and the student grappling and hitting one another with punches. Eventually, the kid is knocked down and Smith then leans over the child and strikes him again.
The student is currently in a local hospital recovering.

8 News Now also covered the story, and according to their reporting, Smith is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $9,000 bail. They also report that he’s been taken off CCSD’s substitute pool and will no longer be able to serve within the school district.
