Las Vegas Makes List for Most Turbulent Flight Routes
If you happen to be someone who is afraid of flying, you might want to reconsider booking that flight to or from Las Vegas.
The city of lights has made the list for having one of the most turbulent routes. There’s a company named Turbli, and according to one of their most recent reports, Las Vegas ranks amongst one of the most turbulent airline routes in North America.
Thankfully, it doesn’t look like it affects every route flying into our city. According to their findings, the trip between Las Vegas and Denver, Colorado, has been named one of the shakiest routes within the region. It makes sense, because both cities made the top three for bumpiest airports. The 442-mile flight takes about an hour and 49 minutes and mountainous ranges are most likely the cause of all the turbulence.
Turbulence is actually a fairly common thing over mountain ranges or near water. And while Lake Mead isn’t the main cause for all the shaking, flying over the Rocky Mountains definitely is. When airplanes fly over the Rockies, it can lead to air currents that are unpredictable, according to 9 News in Denver.
Turbli also notes that a jet stream, which is a fast-moving air current, can also create the aerial phenomenon. Especially when the air quickly shifts southward, as it has recently. Jet streams aren’t always in the same place. Thanks to El Nino, last year, it’s been pushed a little south.
The Most Turbulent Routes
Thankfully, Las Vegas doesn’t top their list. According to their findings, the most bumpy route in North America is from Nashville to Raleigh. Charlotte, North Carolina to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania comes next.
Four of the ten bumpiest routes actually involve North Carolina. However, none of their airports made the top 10.
Portland was shown to be the bumpiest airport, followed by Denver, and Las Vegas came in third.
