Nevada Prison Lost A Convicted Murderer For A Year
Have you ever made a mistake at work? Of course you have, we all have. Sometimes, those mistakes leave us thinking, “Man, I probably should have gotten fired for that!” And that’s exactly how some prison guards are probably feeling today! It has been revealed that officials at a Nevada prison were completely unware that a prisoner was missing! And it isn’t some white collar criminal either. The guy who vanished is a convicted murderer! According to 8 News Now investigators, the Nevada prison officials realized he was missing ahead of a scheduled parole hearing.
The Tragic Murder Of Terry Dixon
Jeremy Kelly, now 43, was found guilty, in the late nineties, by a jury in Clark County on numerous charges. Those charges included: robbery, burglary and conspiracy, AND first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. While convicted in 1999, the whole thing started when Kelly was 15. Kelly was arrested for the tragic shooting death of Terry Dixon in June of 1996.
When Las Vegas Metropolitan police made the arrest, Kelly was in possession of a stolen vehicle that belonged to Terry Dixon. A truck, which helped in implicating him in the crime.
According to the Las Vegas Sun article, authorities believe that Kelly (and another person named Lamar Alexander) went to Terry Dixon’s apartment with the intent of stealing the truck. Things went south and Dixon was shot and killed in the process.
Jeremy Kelly was being held at High Desert Station Prison, which is located outside of Las Vegas. However, the NV Parole Board granted Kelly parole in 2016, but Kelly violated it less than two years later and had to return to the corrections facility.
In December of 2017, an officer stopped Kelly for driving without his headlights on, but found him driving with: drugs, guns, and nearly 8 grand in cash.
Fast forward to December of 2023, and it was discovered that Kelly was no longer in custody. They realized it because he would have been up for parole AGAIN in January of 2024.
Thankfully, the story does have a happy ending. A warrant for Kelly’s arrest was made in January and police were able to find/arrest him on February 16th.
But the next time you make a mistake at work, just remember… it could’ve been worse.
