Survey Shows Most Locals Want Formula 1 To Stay In Las Vegas For The Long Term
I don’t know if I necessarily believe a new study that’s come out today. It’s regarding Formula 1, and it’s continued presence in our city of Las Vegas.
According to an article from FOX 5, officials from the Las Vegas Gran Prix say that the majority of locals — 52.8% — like the idea of Formula 1 returning to our city for the long run.
It’s all based on a survey that was conducted by The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. In the survey, they asked 6,000 individuals questions about the race. And their findings shocked me, if I’m being honest!
Over half of the people surveyed said they wouldn’t mind if the race just became a normal annual thing.
Formula 1 Was An Economic Success
Listen, there’s no denying that last year’s race should be considered a success. A massive one, actually. It brought a ton of money into our local economy. But I also can’t help but think of all the negative comments we were hearing (and seeing) in our comments during the lead up to the race. Seriously, I don’t know of anyone who was excited about all of the traffic and construction that came with the race too.
My wife, who works on Las Vegas Boulevard, couldn’t stand it. She already leaves for work early, but during the height of the construction, it was adding well over an hour to her daily commute. According to their survey, she wasn’t alone. Two out of three drivers say they experienced some level of disruption to their commute due to road closures tied to the event.
There is some GREAT news though. Looking ahead, they say that preparations for the Grand Prix will be considerably streamlined. They also noted that construction will be sliced from nine months to just three.
The survey also reminds us of how many people came to town and how lucrative the event was for our local economy. Last year’s race estimated about 145,000 unique visitors. And it’s reported that they spent an average of $4,000 per person. If that sounds like a lot, it’s because it is. 3.6 times more than the average Las Vegas tourist.
Formula 1 Is Here To Stay
