Shay Mooney: It’s Easy To ‘Screw Up’ TV Performances
Dan + Shay have done a handful of TV performances since they released their new album Bigger Houses in September, including a performance on the CMA Awards a few weeks ago (11/8) of their new single “Save Me The Trouble.”
That performance went smoothly. But Shay Mooney explains that it’s much more nerve-wracking to perform on TV than it is to perform in concert.
He told us, “First of all, it’s very nerve-wracking to do live television because I feel, you know, through the course of the show, you have several opportunities to if you screw up something, yeah, there’s several opportunities to redeem yourself. I feel like on a TV show, you’re one and done. So, if you mess it up, everybody’s going to see it.”
He added with a smile, “But now we’re always thankful when someone asks us to come and play on TV.”
The duo will get a lot of TV time soon as they become coaches for season 25 of NBC’s The Voice. They will join Reba McEntire, John Legend, and Chance the Rapper in Spring 2024 as the first-ever coaching duo in the show’s history.

Dan Smyers said about their new album Bigger Houses, which was released in September, “Some of our records have been more pop- or hip-hop/R&B-infused, but on this record, I wanted to make tracks that we could hop up at any bar anywhere with our live band and play the songs as they were recorded.”
He added, “Ultimately, this music, this whole album, is something that I’ll be able to look back on in a decade or two and be really proud of the way it turned out.” This comes shortly after the revelation that the successful duo almost broke up. But it seems that they are pretty happy lately: at a recent show, they both took their shirts off, showing off the results of their fitness routines.
