Kelly Clarkson: How Her Divorce Affected Relationship With Reba
Kelly Clarkson appeared on Watch What Happens to Live with Andy Cohen this week and discussed how her friendship with country icon Reba has been since Clarkson and Reba’s stepson Brandon Blackstock divorced in 2020.
Kelly told Andy how the relationship was affected, saying, “We were friends before Brandon and I got together. As a matter of fact, literally, we were talking before she signed up for The Voice; we were texting about that. We text each other all the time.”
She added, “I think we’re both, you know, women of sound mind that know that life doesn’t work out sometimes.”
Clarkson said, referring to Reba herself divorcing Brandon’s father Narvel in 2015, “Well, she would know best (she laughs) it was literally the same thing. So yeah, no hard feelings there. Just feelings! We’ve even worked together since then — on The Voice as well.”
Kelly told Andy that a Reba McEntire album was one of the first albums she ever owned, adding that she’s, “one of my major influences as an artist.”

Just over a decade ago, Kelly told me in an interview about the first time she sat at a family dinner table was with Reba. She said at the time, “I remember the first time I actually ate around a dinner table with like a big family was actually Reba and Narvel’s (Blackstock, Reba’s ex) house like years ago.”
She continued, “They invited me over, and I almost was giggling because I was like, ‘Are we not going to watch TV or something?’ It was just really weird. I had parents that had to work all the time, so eating at the table was not an option. It’s a blessing when you can sit down and do that. It wasn’t like I was mad about it, but I totally laughed; I was like, ‘Are we gonna talk about our day now, or what are we gonna do?.’ They were like, ‘You’ve ever sat at a dinner table?’ and I was like, ‘No, I usually pop it in the microwave, get my Hot Pocket and go sit down and watch TV.”
