Chris Janson On Recent House Fire: ‘I’m Just Grateful To Be Alive’
Just a week ago, Chris Janson was putting out a very scary house fire with his wife Kelly and two kids in the house.
Chris told People, “Thank God, God woke up my wife Kelly. If it weren’t for her hearing that faint ‘beep, beep’ of the fire detector, it could have been very bad.”
The fire was actually raging under the bed they were sleeping in. Janson said, “This was not a little fire. This was a legit, ‘7-foot flame, taller than me’ fire. It was a ‘melting my ceiling fan onto my ottoman’ fire.”
After safely evacuating Kelly and children Georgia and Jessie from the increasingly smoky home, Chris quickly called 911 to summon first responders from the Williamson County Fire Department to come and extinguish the fire. Until they got there, he tried his best to put out the fire with huge buckets of water.
Janson explained, “I went into survival mode. The fire melted my ottoman and literally created a campfire essentially right in the middle of my studio room. Thankfully, it didn’t burn the house.”
His wife Kelly posted to Instagram the day after the fire, “Thanking God this morning that I woke up after hearing a barely beep. ( Getting the smoke detectors & house alarm redone today) Thanks to my husband for reacting quickly & pouring buckets of water we only lost a few things. I heard the beep very meekly coming from our downstairs studio / writing room. Luckily I woke up rushed the kids outside with in 10 minutes the Williamson co firefighters & sheriffs arrived. Counting our blessings this morning that is was not worse. Please Check your smoke alarms !!! I’m pretty sure mine needs some work. @thechrisjanson.”
And while Janson admits that he can’t be completely sure of what caused the fire, he does have a pretty good idea. He said, “Right now, I’m staring at the little laptop I have had for several years and the battery portion is burned up on it and is fused together with the charger. I am quite convinced that it literally just got overheated and one thing led to another.”
He then offered, “I’m just grateful to be alive. I’m grateful that the house didn’t burn down.”
