Brantley Gilbert Talks Marriage And The Road
Being on tour is fun, but it’s also challenging. That’s especially true in the relationship department as Brantley Gilbert has learned in the two years since marrying Amber Cochran.
Knowing where each other stands is the key to navigating troublesome situations. “We have boundaries,” Brantley says through his record label. “We have to discuss certain things sometimes. Like in any relationship we have to figure out where each other is comfortable. If there is something that I’m saying or doing onstage that makes her feel disrespected, that’s something as a husband I need to consider changing or [I need to] make her understand why I [do it]. She does an awesome job with it.”
That’s not say there aren’t problems sometimes. “We played a show one night and I reached down in the crowd and I was shaking hands or just tagging hands and stuff like that,” the “Bottoms Up” singer says. “And I went to raise back up … there was a pair underwear that got … I guess some old girl pulled her drawers off and they got hung [on me]. It looked to my wife like I was just holding a pair of underwear up like I was proud, ‘Oh yay!’ But I saw it and I was like, ‘Oh my god.'”
Amber tracked down Brantley’s longtime head of security and asked to be taken to the pit. “He said, ‘For what?'” Brantley recalls, laughing. “She said, ‘Because I’m going to find that … ‘
And he said, ‘No no no no no!’
So she’s tiny but she’s tough.”
