A Las Vegas High School Hosts A Taylor Swift Bible Study
There’s a local Christian high school that’s making national headlines because they host a weekly Taylor Swift Bible Study.
Yup, you read that right! Students at the acclaimed Faith Lutheran Middle and High School, here in Las Vegas, are turning to Taylor Swift as a source for their weekly bible study! The school is calling it “Tuesdays with Taylor – The Eras Bible Study,” and everyone meets before school starts to dissect how Taylor’s lyrics can be connected to the bible.
According to a report by KMBC News (Kansas City, Missouri) the “Swifties” at Faith Lutheran Middle and High School are taking their love of Taylor Swift to a whole new level.
A Taylor Swift Bible Study At The Largest Lutheran School In The US
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the school, Faith Lutheran is the largest Lutheran school in the country. According to the school’s website, they have 2,100 students this year. That also makes the school the largest non-public school in our state of Nevada. Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School is also affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod branch of the Protestant faith.
KMBC spoke with Michelle Dwyer, the school’s director of admissions and marketing, and she said that “God is really trying to prove something in Sin City.”
How The Taylor Swift Bible Study Got Started
Another Kansas City television station covered the story, KCTV, and they spoke with Becky Chaplin. Chaplin is the school’s family ministry director and says the idea for the Taylor Swift bible study came about during a student council retreat. She says she threw out the idea about analyzing Swift’s lyrics to see if there were any correlations to the bible. Just like that, the Eras Bible Study was created.
How The Taylor Swift Bible Study Links Lyrics To The Bible
To give you an idea of how the kids found a connection between Taylor’s lyrics and biblical passages, one example given showed how lyrics from the song “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” linked to Deuteronomy 20:3-4, which says, “Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them…”
