Brad Paisley's new song "Truck Still Works" is an ode to one of the biggest hits of his career, "Mud On The Tires," which was a #1 single in 2005. "Truck Still Works" is one of many songs Brad has written lately that has inspired an entirely new album to come.
Brad told us, "'Truck Still Works' is a track where everything old is new again. We debated on how much to really allude to the original ("Mud On The Tires"), and there were questions like ‘Do you moonlight in a duck blind, catfish on a trot line?’ What do you not put in, what’s too much, what is enough, and what is not enough? And trust me, we tried each of those and it was really fun."
He added, "I think it was Chris Dubois' (the song's co-writer) idea to end the first verse with the line, ‘How about a little test drive down by the lake.’ It was really fun to go through the process of what makes this song both new and old. What I love about it is that the groove, and the feel, is all very modern and very country. We hope it’s a blast for anyone who’s a current fan or for someone to become a new fan."
When Post Malone started to talk about his love of country music, he posted a video of himself covering a Brad Paisley song. At the time, Brad joked on social media that he was Post Malone's songwriter.
Flash forward to today and Brad is just one of the many country stars on Malone’s new album F-1 Trillion.
We interviewed Brad recently and he told us his thoughts on Post Malone and his love of the country genre. He said, "He deserves to be welcomed because of his love for it and his immersion in it. I know how many hours of sleep I’m never gonna get back from working with him and the amount of dedication, and hours, and blood sweat, and tears, and liver damage that he has been doing (laughs)."
He added of his friend, "He’s been working really hard on becoming a country artist and it’s not some whim and sometimes over the years. We’ve all seen the foray into country music by people that are like, 'I’ll try this for a moment.' That’s not what he’s doing. I get the feeling this was his goal all along; he’s just that serious about it. He did it great and with his record, nobody has any complaints. It’s just really cool, and it’s been really eye-opening to see the creative process that he does so different than mine."
