The iconic hotel’s days are now numbered. The Tropicana Las Vegas opened its doors for a gran opening back in 1957 and it all comes to an end on October 9th, 2024. While it holds many years of memories, it will reportedly only take 22 seconds to collapse into nothing but dust and debris.
What’s Going To Happen To The Tropicana Las Vegas?
More information about detonation day is now coming to light. It sounds like there will not be a public viewing area due to safety restrictions but there will be constant live coverage on the news. The event will reportedly be live streamed by Bally’s and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
There’s a big show planned with an implosion show including 555 drones and a fireworks display that will light up the sky before the implosion of both of the towers, per 8 News Now. Soo Kim, chairman of Bally’s Corporation said to 8 News Now, “This moment in Las Vegas history represents more than just the next chapter–It’s the evolution of the Strip, where legend meets innovation to create something truly unforgettable.” That’s a bold claim! However, it’s to be believed. The site will be the future home of the Las Vegas A’s ballpark after the team moves from Oakland (to its temporary home in Sacramento) to Las Vegas. It’s going to be awesome having a professional baseball team in Vegas. The football games are crazy, the NHL games are some of the best productions in the league, baseball will fit right in.
According to 8 News Now, the implosion will be done by GGG Demolition in coordination with Controlled Demolition, Inc. A total area of 917,400 square feet will reportedly be imploded with the use of 2,200 pounds of explosives. That’s a lot! It will start with Paradise Tower and end with Club Tower. Both buildings are expected to collapse completely within 22 seconds after the implosion button is pressed, per 8 News Now. This A’s ballpark is going to be something special! However, not everybody is happy about it. Billie Joe Armstrong made headlines when he criticized the A’s owner and went on to complain about the city of Las Vegas itself which upset locals.
