The Kansas City Chiefs released the following statement in response to the shooting at their Super Bowl parade celebration today (Feb. 14):
"We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.
We are in close communication with the Mayor's office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.
At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.
We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist."
The New York Times reports at least 22 people sustained gunshot wounds from the shooting. Among the wounded are nine children.

The Super Bowl parade celebration for the Kansas City Chiefs was marred by a shooting that resulted in at least one death and multiple injuries.
Multiple outlets -- including NBC News, The Washington Post and CNN -- said Kansas City Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins confirmed the one death. Chief Hopkins noted three people were in critical condition, five people were in serious condition and one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries. So far, a total of 14 injuries have been confirmed.
The Associated Press noted that unseasonably warm temperatures in the 60s likely helped attract more fans to the parade. It is estimated about 1 million people attended the Feb. 14 Super Bowl celebration.
The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department issued the following statement:
"At the conclusion of the Chiefs rally, shots were fired west of Union Station. We have detained two armed suspects. There are multiple victims. We ask anyone who witnessed the shooting to go to the southwest corner of Pershing and Main. We will provide updates as more information becomes available."
The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Kansas City PD has informed those at the parade who were separated from their children that Union Station is the only location for child reunification.
Footage from the Chiefs Parade shows a chaotic scene of multiple law enforcement and first responder units in action following the shooting.
More footage from the parade continues to be uploaded to social media. The clip below reportedly shows Chiefs fans tackling one of the suspected shooters.
Response to the Shooting from Chiefs Players
Following the news of the shooting at the end of the parade celebration, some members of the Kansas City Chiefs have taken to social media.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes wrote, "Praying for Kansas City..."
Linebacker Drue Tranquill wrote, "Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing."
Safety Justin Reid wrote, "Praying for everyone in Kansas City at the parade."
