King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.

This news was confirmed in a statement from Buckingham Palace. The statement begins, "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer."

The statement continues, "His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual."

Furthermore, it's noted, "The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible."

The statement concludes, "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

An Update on Catherine, the Princess of Wales

King Charles III made headlines recently for his recent prostate procedure. Coincidently, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, was hospitalized at the same time for a planned abdominal surgery. Per a statement from Kensington Palace, Catherine was admitted to the hospital for surgery on Jan. 16. She returned home to recover on Jan. 29.

When Catherine was through with her surgery, Kensington Palace said, in part, "The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery."

Kensington Palace further noted, "She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."

As of publishing, Kensington Palace has not issued a statement regarding The King's cancer diagnosis. The Independent reports that Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has spoken with his father about his diagnosis. He is reportedly scheduled to travel back to the U.K. for a visit.
