Hats Off: Woman Sells Bernie Sanders Doll For $20K And Donates It To Charity
Jeff & Aimee in the Morning are giving a Hats Off to a woman who used her crocheting skills for charity!
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders became a viral meme hit last week for sitting on a chair with an amused look on his face.
While the meme went viral on social media Tobey King started crocheting a doll inspired by the meme.
“It’s mind-blowing because I knew Bernie was trending because of that picture, and I already had a Bernie pattern and a Bernie doll. So I just went and got that, and I modified that super quick,” said King, in an AP interview.
The Texas woman then posted her doll to Instagram where it became a viral hit. With over 40,000 likes King’s creation would inspire a good deed.
King sold her Bernie doll on eBay for $20,300! With the money received, she donated everything to Meals on Wheels.
Meals on Wheels is a charity that delivers meals to senior citizens in need.
King chose Meals on Wheels because Senator Sanders sold merchandise inspired by the meme to help Meals on Wheels in Vermont.
“I really hope that he thinks this is something cool and that I’m doing something good,” said King.
