‘Dexter’ Tells Sophia Bush That Yes, It’s Coming Back
Seven years after Dexter ended with a widely criticized series finale, Showtime has announced that it is bringing the series back for a 10-episode limited run. Variety first reported the news yesterday, saying that Michael C. Hall, who plays the lead character, would be returning. Showtime tweeted about it soon afterward, saying, “Surprise mother——. He’s back. #Dexter.”
Actress and apparent Dexter fanatic Sophia Bush tweeted, “I literally just got the chills and my hands are sweating and OH MY GOD IS THIS REAL!?!?! @SHO_Dexter!? Can it be!? Tell us EVERYTHING!? (#notanad, just a SUPER FAN)”
The show’s official account responded, “We could tell you, but then we’d have to… you know the rest.”

When we last saw Michael C. Hall’s Dexter, he staged his death and escaped from Florida to what seemed to be an anonymous life working as a logger in the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile, his girlfriend, Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) and his son Harrison were safe in Buenos Aires waiting for Dexter to join them.
The ending disappointed fans, and is generally regarded as one of the worst finales ever. There’s no word if Strahovski will return (she also currently stars in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale). Showtime hasn’t said anything about what the storyline will be or which, if any, cast members are returning.
