Stephen Colbert Lampoons Keith Urban’s “Female”

There's at least one person who's not a fan of Keith Urban's new song "Female," and that's the host of CBS' The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

The late-night funny man skewered the song on his show Thursday night (11/11) despite being a Keith Urban fan. "Last night at the country music awards, Urban debuted his new Harvey Weinstein-inspired female country empowerment anthem," the host said while showing a news headline about the song. "That is a word salad I never thought I would say."

"I just wanna be clear," Colbert continued, "I am a fan of Mr. Urban's and I think his heart is in the right place. His lyrics? Not as much." The host went on to play a clip of Keith's awards show performance, and then delivered a performance of his own. Check it out above.

"Female" was written by Ross Copperman, Nicolle Galyon and Shane McAnally. "We got to talking that day, and then Shane McAnally was like, 'I've had this title in my phone a long time – I've never known how to do it – called 'Female,'" Copperman recently revealed to Billboard. "Me and Nicolle were like, 'Uh, yes, we're doing that.' We thought the best way to write it was to just list things in the chorus."

As for Keith's decision to record it, "It just speaks to all of the females in my life, particularly," he told the publication. "For a guy who grew up with no sisters in a house of boys, it's incredible how now I'm surrounded by girls. But not only in my house; I employ a huge amount of women in my team. The song just hit me for so many reasons."
