Sept. 11, 2021, will mark the 21 anniversary of a horrific attack on our country.

What was the world’s most tallest buildings, The Twin Towers, were desecrated inuring and killing thousands of people. 1 World Trade Center (WTC), known as the north building, stood 1,368 feet tall and 1,730 feet with the antenna on top. 2 World Trade Center (WTC), known as the south building, stood 1,362 feet tall. The 911Memorial.org states on their site that each of the buildings were 110 floors each, contained 99 elevators, 21,800 windows and were completed in 1973. Though the buildings do not remain in physical form we will never forget the impact those buildings had on our country.

This tragedy has connected the United States in many ways making us stronger as a nation. We may all live in different cities and different states but the 911 Memorial & Museum is connecting us together via our cell phone. The country’s principal institution created a “Remember The Skyvirtual commemoration where anyone with a smart device and social media Instagram account can participate.

Remember The Sky takes place on September 11 where you take a photo of the sky, write a personal message and include the hashtags “#NeverForget911“, “#RememberTheSky” and tag “@911Memorial.” After you take a photo of the sky, post the photo to your Instagram account to participate in an active remembrance.

Their message is that the photo of the sky connects us all from wherever you are. 911Memorial.org reports, “This social media campaign is inspired by the clear blue sky that was present in New York City and across the country on 9/11.” Partaking in this virtual event helps build the gap between people who lived through 9/11 and today’s youth who are still learning about 9/11. The use of technology can be a driver in the conversations had about the historical moment that took place 21 years ago.

We as Americans promise to never forget while keeping the message alive. You can learn about the history, virtual event, get downloadable 9/11 Instagram photos, and more HERE.
