Are you a midnight snacker? Well, this could help you avoid some of the remorse! A group of nutritionists came together to name the “best” foods to eat — if you’re hungry — right before bed!

We’ve all been told that we shouldn’t eat before we sleep. But sometimes, we just can’t help it. We compiled this list (so we can feel less guilty ourselves), and these foods actually promote better sleep or aid in your overall health.

Some of the answers are shocking.

However, we’re very happy to know that some of these options can be late-night munchies without feeling too bad about ourselves. Take a look at the listicle below to explore some of the most beneficial foods to eat before hitting the hay.

  • #5 PEANUT BUTTER

    Peanut Butter

. . .But maybe on a rice cake! And the suggested choice of peanut butter is supposed to be “natural,” and not loaded with a bunch of extra sugar!

  • #4 GREEK YOGURT

Bowl of YogurtYum! Greek yogurt with berries and almonds. They say it helps you sleep by keeping your blood sugar balanced. Well…at least that’s what they say!

  • #3 BANANAS

BananasThis is just another one that may help you sleep a bit better. It’s all about the Potassium baby, and that relaxes the muscles!

  • #2 CHOCOLATE

Chocolate and AlmondsHowever, there’s a catch to this. The chocolate must be a dark one with a high percentage of cocoa! Just don’t eat too many pieces since there is caffeine in this treat.

  • #1 WALNUTS

WalnutsThis snack is filling and full of nutrients. They also help you sleep since they’re filled with melatonin. So night-night!
