One Football Game Cost Man $2 Million In Circa Survivor Competition
Think you are having a bad start to your new year? You’ll feel better after hearing the plight of 60 year old Mike Barth. The Houston native was a contestant in Circa Resort & Casino‘s “Circa Survivor” competition.
The rules are simple: pick one team to win each week. If your team wins, you move on. The following week you must select another team (you can’t pick the same team twice). Whoever is left at the end of the season wins or splits the purse.
6,133 entries at $1000 a piece means $6,133,000 were up for grabs. Only three people were “alive” at this point of the competition so they were all competing for at least $2 million in winning.
So… What’d Mike Do?
This brings us to Mike. Mike had a choice to make. Which team would he pick to give him the win and score him a life-changing amount of money? He thought about taking the 12-4 Minnesota Vikings, but the team – which locked up their playoffs position – was planning on sitting starters in their game against the Bears. The Vikings ended up trouncing Chicago.
Instead, Mike chose the Indianapolis Colts. Sure, the team had lost after being in the lead by 33 points earlier in the year. Sure, they have a bad record. But as bad as they are, they aren’t as bad as their competition. The Houston Texans were 2-13-1 entering Week 18. The worst team in the league.
Well… you read the headline. In a game that meant absolutely nothing to either club, the game arguably meant more to Mike, a/k/a “The Enemy Within”, than anyone else on the planet. The Texans were down, looking down the barrel of a 4th-and-20. A touchdown and an extra point, they tie.
The Texans pulled off the touchdown in heart-stopping fashion. But they didn’t go for the tie. They went for the win. They lined up for a two point conversion and completed it, taking the lead 32-31, which was the final.

He would’ve won at least $2 million if the Indianapolis Colts beat the Houston Texans.

One point away from $2,044,333. His competitors ended up winning their heart attack games. No word as to whether or not Mike plans to move away from Houston and the team that cost him millions.
