Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood And Tim McGraw Hightlight ‘ACM: Our Country’ TV Special
ACM: Our Country aired on CBS tonight (4/5) during this most difficult time of COVID-19 with country music’s biggest stars singing songs from the comfort of their own home.
The show was hosted by Gayle King; here is the recap of the show’s setlist:
- The show started off with Keith Urban from his home studio who thanked all the first responders and those on the front lines. Keith said, “Music is an incredible healing mechanism.” He them played “Wasted Time,” saying he missed being around people.
- Urban then tossed to Lady Antebellum’s who sang “What I’m Leaving For” and dedicated it to all those on the medical field. Hillary Scott said, “This song is about walking out off your house and leaving your family to do what you are called to do.”
- Carrie Underwood sang “Drinking Alone” after taking a sip of wine and saying, “Let’s continue to support each other and stay strong.”
- Little Big Town sang “Next To You” and Jimi Westbrook introduced it saying, “We’ll get through this together.”
- Tim McGraw performed “Humble And Kind” as he said “in this crazy time” with his band on split screens from their own homes.
- Kelsea Ballerini said, “What a time for music,” before singing “Homecoming Queen.”
- Shania Twain sang “Honey, I’m Home” and “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” along with her horse and dog at her home barn.
- Old Dominion sang “Some People Do.”
- Eric Church said, “The hardest thing for me is the unknown, I feel we all fear the unknown. I have hope and I think you should have hope. The things to remember are not to fear, be brave and endure.” He then sang a song called “Never Break Heart.”
- Brad Paisley sang “Mud On The Tires” and then Darius Rucker joined him via iPad singing “Wagon Wheel.” Later in the show, the two paid tribute to the late Kenny Rogers.
- Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani sang “Nobody But You” outside at Blake’s Oklahoma farm.
- Thomas Rhett sitting in the studio at the house sang “Be A Light.” He said, “I think that with everything going on in the world right now just know that we are all in this together.”
- Brandi Carlile sang “The Joke” from her grandma’s piano at home.
- Luke Bryan sang “Most People Are Good” from his couch at his beach house in Florida. He dedicated the song to those on the front lines of the fight against the disease.
- Luke Combs performed “Beautiful Crazy” from his home in Nashville. He said, “I promised we’ll come out of the other side of this.”
- Miranda Lambert sang from her porch on the Tennessee property where she married her husband Brendan a year ago. She said, “I sit on this porch and I just want to remind everybody that we’re here and we’re together. Until we can be together again I will sit right here and play you a little bit of ‘Bluebird.'”
- Dierks Bentley sang from his home in Colorado. He said, “I just can’t imagine the hardship that’s going on in our country music family. Music is important right now.” He then sang “I Hold On.”
- Kane Brown and John Legend performed their duet “Last Time I Say Sorry.” He called John Legend via FaceTime to perform the new song.
- Florida Georgia Line sang “Blessings” from Brian Kelley’s living room joined by their families.
- Sheryl Crow sang “I Shall Believe.”
- In closing, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie played tributes to the late Kenny Rogers through his songs. Rogers died a few weeks back at the age of 81.
- ACM Show flash backs included a 2011 performance of Carrie Underwood with Steven Tyler, a 2013 performance of Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and John Fogerty, Shania Twain singing on ACM’s in 1996, 2010 performance of Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins singing “Hillbilly Bone,” 2013 performance of Luke Bryan singing “Crash My Party,” 2019’s Brooks & Dunn’s performance with Luke Combs of “Brand New Man,” a 2017 performance of the Backstreet Boys with Florida Georgia Line and more.
Before the show aired, Lauren Alaina, Ingrid Andress, Gabby Barrett, Lee Brice, Blanco Brown, Lindsay Ell, Riley Green, Mickey Guyton, Caylee Hammack, Ashley McBryde, Jake Owen, Carly Pearce and Tenille Townes appeared on the ACM Facebook page and the Amazon Music Twitch channel.
The pre-show also featured a Joe Diffie tribute by Chris Young. Diffie died of COVID-19 last week. He was 61.
Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think. She loves her life in country music and has been backstage at every CMA Awards show since the late 1990s.
Many of her stories are from her one-on-one interviews. She was there at the beginning of the incredible careers of many music superstars today, including Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and Blake Shelton, and has interviewed them multiple times throughout the years.
