PlayStation owners got a brief glimpse of what to expect from Sony's next-gen version of the popular console.

Mark Cerny, who also was the lead architect of the PS4, gave some details to Wired about the next-gen PlayStation, which so far hasn't been named PS5.

Per Cerny, the next-gen PlayStation will accept physical media and won't be an exclusive download/streaming-only console. The next-gen PlayStation will also be backwards compatible with PS4 games. As for other technical features, the next-gen PlayStation will also feature 3D sound, support 8K graphics and feature a new solid state drive (SSD) that will provide for faster loading and play times.

However, for PlayStation fans hoping to get their hands on the console soon, they'll have to wait a bit longer. Release of Sony's new PlayStation console won't be happening in 2019, and an exact date was not divulged.
