5 Timeless Toys That Never Get Old

Is there anything more nostalgic than the smell of Play-Doh? It’s been one of those timeless toys that has been around for almost seven decades! It’s a go-to for kids…

Toy maker Hasbro, Inc. announced today that fans of the board game Monopoly voted in an online contest to eliminate the iron playing figure and replace it with a cat figure. The cat gamepiece received 31 percent of the online votes to beat out four other contenders, a robot, diamond ring, helicopter and guitar. (Photo illustration by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

Is there anything more nostalgic than the smell of Play-Doh? It's been one of those timeless toys that has been around for almost seven decades! It's a go-to for kids and sometimes as parents we actually hate it. There is something so zen about playing with Play-Doh no matter how old you are. It's still fun even despite having so many flashy cool tech toys. Sometimes all you need is a little imagination.

Play-Doh isn’t the only classic toy that has stood the test of time. Here are some other throwback favorites that kids (and adults!) still adore today.

1. LEGO

Introduced in the 1950s, LEGO has always been a powerhouse one of the timeless toys that never gets old. Terrible to step on but amazing to play with. From castles to spaceships. They are constantly recreating themselves and adding new and topical creations. The brand has evolved with themed sets like Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Marvel, but the heart of LEGO has always been the same...endless possibilities in a box!

2. Barbie

Barbie hit the market in 1959 and hasn't looked back. If anything just keeps getting better and better. Generations of kids have dressed up like her, taken her on adventures, and built dream cars and houses for her. Different careers, skin tones, and body types. There is now a Barbie for pretty much everyone. Barbie is still the queen of dolls and one of the greatest timeless toys.

3. Monopoly

Oh, Monopoly. The game can bring families together or tear them apart. This one hit the shelves in 1935! It's a classic board game that has been a household staple for decades. Getting your Boardwalk and avoiding jail for our whole lives.

4. Hot Wheels

Talk about timeless toys...The first Hot Wheels car came onto the scene in 1968 and never slowed down (no pun intended). They have raced through every little boy's playroom, over ramps, and around tracks for generations. Endless models and collectibles. They are a staple in my house and if you have a boy I'm sure they are in yours too.

5. Etch A Sketch

Since 1960, Etch A Sketch has remained a hit with kids... And me; it is a huge hit with me. We love tablets and digital drawing things but the frustration and joy of an Etch A Sketch can't be beat.

These timeless toys have been around for generations and the most part haven't changed. Continuing to inspire fun, creativity, and even a little competition. While new toys and tech are constantly being developed, it’s amazing to see how the classics hold strong. There's something special about old games and toys that still hit today.
