First off, don't read this or go any further if you (for some reason) haven't watched Stranger Things 3.

Still here? Great!

Netflix has released a trailer for Stranger Things 4, and the entire teaser (which is less than a minute long) is a big reveal: that Chief Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) is still alive. Or, at least it's someone who looks like Chief Hopper.

In a post-credits scene after the final episode of Stranger Things 3, we saw a Russian facility and a reference to an American being held in their custody. Fans were hoping that the American was Chief Hopper, and this trailer leads us to believe that this is the case.

(Harbour is spending lots of time in Russian plots and subplots: he's also playing the Alexei Shostakov character -- aka "The Red Guardian" -- in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Widow.)

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!” series creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement, per Entertainment Weekly. “Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long-buried, something that connects everything… Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

Is there a release date yet?  Nyet! Stay tuned and watch the trailer below.
