Secretariat's performance in the 1973 Kentucky Derby was simply extraordinary. He dominated the race, pulling away from the field with every stride. He won the race by an astonishing 2 ½ lengths in a record-breaking time of 1:59 2/5, becoming the first horse to break the two-minute mark in the history of the Kentucky Derby.
