Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, recently had a candid chat about Lauren’s battle with postpartum depression and how they tackled it head-on. They spilled the beans on Akins’ podcast, Live in Love With Lauren Akins, where Rhett made a special appearance. Their youngest bundle of joy, Lillie, was born in November 2021, joining her three older sisters.
In the podcast, Akins didn’t hold back, sharing her emotional journey. She revealed, “After Ada James, our marriage hit a rough patch. After Lennon, the world seemed to be falling apart. And after Lillie, I personally went through a tough time.”
Thomas Rhett chimed in, highlighting the challenges of discussing his wife’s struggles with others, saying, “You don’t want to come off like you’re gossiping about your wife. It’s not like you want to call up a buddy and be like, ‘Hey, my wife’s acting really strange.'”
They both acknowledged that experiencing postpartum depression several years into their marriage caught them off guard. Rhett admitted, “You start wondering, ‘Are we falling apart? Is this normal?'”
Akins emphasized how seeking counseling played a crucial role in their journey. She shared, “I felt deep down that something wasn’t right. I’ve had previous childbirth experiences, and this was different. When I confided in a few friends, they gently suggested that I might be dealing with depression.”
By opening up about their struggles, Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins are shining a light on the reality of postpartum depression and the importance of seeking support during those challenging times.
