We Love Our Country!

Number One records have been a goal of country musicians since the first charts were published in 1944. The Billboard Hot Country Songs chart was first published in 1958.

Here in Coyote Country, we’re huge fans of all Country Music and lately we’ve been having fun playing more of the great 90’s Country that many of us grew up on.

The 90’s Nuggets have gotten us thinking about all of the great music that paved the way for today’s country artists.

So, we decided to start the Number Ones: Coyote Country Music Chronicle, a weekly series of articles which will highlight the Number One Songs for each week looking back as far as 25 years.

We’ve included the music video so you can relive some fond memories and some little nuggets of information about each song.

  • 25 Years Ago: George Strait - Carrying Your Love With Me

    This week in 1997,  George Strait was spending his third week at #1 with “Carrying Your Love with Me,” the second single from the album of the same name.

    “Carrying Your Love with Me” was nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards.

  • 20 Years Ago: Kenny Chesney - The Good Stuff

    This week in 2002, ‘The Good Stuffwas enjoying a second week at Number One. ‘The Good Stuff’ becomes Kenny Chesney‘s fifth Number One record.

    The Good Stuffwas the second single from Kenny’s 2002 album No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems.

    The song was even named the number one country single of 2002 according to Billboard Year End.

  • 15 Years Ago: Kenny Chesney - Never Wanted Nothin' More

    ‘Never Wanted Nothin’ More’ was written by Chris Stapleton and Ronnie Bowman and recorded by Kenny Chesney. It was the first single from Kenny’s 11th album, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates. ‘Never Wanted Nothin’ More’ became Kenny’s 12th number one record.

  • 10 Years Ago: Dierks Bentley - 5-1-5-0

    In 2012, Dierks Bentley hit the top of the charts with 5-1-5-0,’ his 10th Number one song. ‘5-1-5-0’ is the the third single from the album, Home.

  • 5 Years Ago: Sam Hunt - Body Like A Backroad

    This week in 2017, Sam Hunt‘s Body Like A Back Road’ was spending it’s 24th week atop the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song was the lead single from his second studio album Southside.

    ‘Body Like A Backroad’ broke records in late July 2017, according to US News and World Report, becoming the only song in the history of the Hot Country Songs chart to stay at number one for more than 24 weeks, a record previously held since 2012 by Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise”

    Surprisingly, there was no official music video for the song, just an official lyric video

  • Today: Morgan Wallen - Wasted On You

    2022 – For the week ending August 6th, Morgan Wallen is spending his 4th week at Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with ‘Wasted On You.’

    ‘Wasted On You’ is the fourth single released from the Dangerous: The Double Album.

    Jim Asker, writing for Billboard Country Update: On The Charts reported, “Wasted on You” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts dated for the week ending January 23, 2021 alongside the album tracks “Somebody’s Problem”, “Warning”, and “Sand in My Boots” and the singles “7 Summers” and “More Than My Hometown”.

    In doing so, Asker says, Wallen became the first artist ever to chart six songs within the top 10 of Hot Country Songs at the same time.
