You might know Ian Flanigan from his stint on The Voice, but this is Ian Flanigan like you’ve never seen him before.
Recognized for his whiskey tenor and soulful country tunes, Flanigan is also a bona fide animal lover! The New York native recently revealed the name of his first ever pet — Lightning, a Shetland Sheepdog or, as they are more commonly known, a Sheltie.
These lively, affectionate canines are the perfect dog for those who like to spend their days in the great outdoors. They’re whip-smart and easy to train, making them excellent watchdogs AND perfect for families with young kids. We can see why Mr. Flanigan loved Lightning so much. It sounds like a match made in heaven! And we’re sure Lightning was a very good boy.
Ian Flanigan was a touring musician for a decade before his debut on The Voice. Like many people, the pandemic forced him into tight constraints. But good things come to those who wait, and when talent scouts for the show caught what was supposed to be his final gig, his performance acted as an impromptu audition. The rest is history!
He placed third in the competition, but his career has flourished. His new album, “Strong,” was released in September 2022 and is a testament to not only his talent, but an ode to a truly lovely outlook on life. He has faced struggle, but has come out the other end with a smile on his face.
These days, his days of gigging and the unhealthy lifestyle that often comes with it are long behind him. Flanigan is now five years sober and a devoted family man. He tours with his fiancée, Ayla, and their daughter. Through hard work, determination and a whole lot of faith, music and touring have become a source of hope again.
Catch him LIVE at Paws In The Park 2022, but in the meantime, check out these adorable throwbacks!
