Children’s TV Show Recommendations. Girl watching television - screen time

Do you need some solid children’s TV show recommendations for your little ones at home? I got you! Because in my humble opinion, I think we are currently living in the golden age of television… not just for adults, but also for kids!

There are so many great kids shows on tv right now! And with streaming services aplenty, it has never been easier to find something that’s not only entertaining for your children to watch, but oftentimes educational!

Please Don’t Shame Parents Who Allow Screen Time

Listen, I already know that some people reading this are rolling your eyes right now! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people tell me and my wife that OUR son shouldn’t watch TV. It’s always been so strange to me when people try and tell you how to raise your own child…

Also, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that it’s oftentimes the people who don’t have ANY children who are the loudest about how a child should be raised? Being a “dog mom” doesn’t count, Karen.

To those people I say this, I truly hope you have all the time in the world to never have to rely on a screen when parenthood comes your way. And if you can achieve it, I’ll be proud of you! I’ll also, low-key, be a bit jealous that your day isn’t as chaotic as so many of ours is.

These TV Show Recommendations Can Help You

As for the rest of us, screen time can be a valuable tool. An essential one, even. Look, television didn’t raise my child, but it damn sure helped allow my wife and I to have a little time to swap out the laundry, do the dishes, vacuum the floors, or just do anything else around the house that keeps it running! Besides, it’s not like we just plopped him in front of reruns of The Office, we picked shows that are educational AND entertaining.

So without further ado, here are a few shows I think you should let your kids watch.

  • Bluey

Of course BLUEY was going to be on this list! I’m not kidding when I tell you, BLUEY quite possibly is the greatest children’s television show of all time! My family and I stumbled upon it during the 2020 COVID lockdown, and watching episodes with them are some of my most treasured memories during that incredibly strange time. The show is about family and imagination for the kiddos; but for the adults, it’s about learning how to be a better parent and a better marital partner.

Unfortunately, my son isn’t as interested in the show anymore, but it hasn’t stopped my from catching up on the newer episodes that are streaming on Disney+

I’m not even ashamed to admit that I sometimes watch BLUEY, by myself, as a 40 year old man. It’s THAT good! Plus, each episode is around 10 mins long. So, if you care about limiting screen time, this is a PERFECT choice.

Trust me when I tell you this, this show will make you think and it’ll make you feel! It’s incredible and it absolutely deserves to be watched with your family!

  • Wild Kratts

As informative as it is entertaining, WILD KRATTS follows the adventures of the Kratt brothers! Both Chris and Martin Kratt start each episode in live action, but then transform into animated versions of themselves to go on adventures with wild animals. They oftentimes have to activate “creature powers” to help save the day, but also teach viewers about the animals on the episodes.

It’s a fun little show that can teach your little ones about their favorite animals.

  • Blaze And The Monster Machines

I really miss when “Blaze and The Monster Machines” was our kid’s favorite show! This one if for the toddlers out there. It follows the adventures of AJ and Blaze and they both usually have to use math and problem solving to save the day! Blaze is a talking monster truck and each episode is filled with action and places our heroes in educational situations, but also teaches young viewers the importance of playing fairly. If your kids are already watching something along the lines of “Paw Patrol” I would highly suggest giving Blaze a try!

  • Stillwater

If you have Apple TV, you should really check out “Stillwater.” It’s such a calm little show that can teach your young ones about the importance of how they perceive the world around them. If you are tired of shows that are so loud, give “Stillwater” a try. It’s almost like ASMR. It’s that soothing to have on, honestly. Plus, the animation is pretty beautiful.

  • Danny Go!

“Danny Go!” in many ways reminds me of Blippi, but I think it’s more fun! Again, it’s more of a show for toddlers, but I just remember really loving our time with “Danny Go!”

Your kids are gonna love Go Danny too!

Danny is fun, he’s educational and he’s always finding himself in crazy situations like exploring volcanos! He does a lot of songs and dances, and trust me when I tell you, they WILL stick in your head! Also, most episodes are usually pretty short! Again, perfect for those parents who need to occupy their kid for a few minutes while completing  a household chore.
