Mother’s Day is around the corner, which means you need to start planning now!

Mother’s Day is a day to honor and pamper any maternal figure in your life. Mother’s Day Vegas edition is just a little more elevated — in our opinion. It’s a day to give back to the women who have carried us, have raised us and have helped us throughout our journey of life.

According to History.com, Mother’s Day can be traced back to ancient Romans and Greeks, who held festivals in honor of mother goddesses. As time went on, it became a religious holiday in England with the day emphasizing people returning to their “mother church” during Lent.

However, the holiday eventually became secular and then eventually transformed into a day of giving flowers and other gifts. In America, the origin of Mother’s Day is really pinned down during the Civil War era, History.com states.

A woman named Ann Reeves Jarvis organized Mothers’ Day Work Clubs “to improve sanitary conditions and stem her community’s appalling infant mortality rates,” Today.com states. During that time, Jarvis had 13 children and only saw four of them live to adulthood. Her daughter, Anna Jarvis, ends up creating a Mother’s Day International Association and trademarks “second Sunday in May” and Mother’s Day.

After the creation of Mother’s Day, Anna Jarvis becomes bothered by the commercialization of the holiday. The story of Mother’s Day’s creator takes a dark turn after this. Jarvis recommended boycotts against florists and other industries, who she thought “exploited the holiday.”

Anna Jarvis went into an asylum at age 80, never had children and died “penniless” due to the plethora of legal battles she incited.

Another fun fact about Mother’s Day: the “mother” in “Mother’s Day” is a singular plural because this was thought to help each family honor their ONE and only mother. Despite the grim story of Mother’s Day and its founder, we still need to celebrate and honor the queens in our life!

Las Vegas is a prime spot to celebrate the women we love and care for.

Fun brunches are always a safe bet, but maybe you’re looking for something with a little bit more spice. In Las Vegas, there’s an occasion for any budget and any type of vibe you’re aiming for!

For all of the mothers reading this: THANK YOU! The backbone of the next generation often lies in the hands of our mothers.

Now if you’re scratching your head and wondering, “what should I even plan?” then have no fear.
