The Swindling Of Swifties: Taylor Swift Fans Scammed Past Weekend
Taylor Swift took over Las Vegas this past weekend with her two-day concert at Allegiant Stadium.
The traffic was insane, and the line to even enter Allegiant Stadium was equally as chaotic. Swift performed for three hours with a setlist that contained her biggest hits and most-loved anthems.
Along with the chaotic frenzy that was the T. Swift concert, another problem unfurled for a few fans.
Some Swifities were swindled! Unsurprisingly, reports of scammers emerged from multiple media outlets this past weekend.
According to Fox 5, a few people were unlucky when trying to purchase tickets on the resale market.
A woman, who Fox 5 interviewed, told the TV station that she purchased tickets from someone online. However, after sending the scammer $150, she was transferred “blank” tickets, which are digitally fake tickets.
This isn’t the only tale of eager fans getting scammed. Social media has also seen many published posts of people buying fake tickets and then recoiling after realizing their tickets are fake.
Scammers are also targeting Facebook Groups to potentially get more unsuspecting victims. And although many venues have switched to recognizing only digital tickets, scammers adapt to their surroundings.
According to the Better Business Bureau, “Last year, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) received over 140 reports on BBB Scam Tracker about ticket scams related to sporting events, concerts, theatre, and more.”
To avoid getting scammed, here are a few tips:
- Purchase right from the venue’s website
- Stick with websites that you KNOW. If you haven’t heard of a certain website then don’t spend a large amount of money buying tickets from it
- Research the website on BBB.org to learn what other customers have experienced
- Don’t click or buy tickets from emails or online ads; “a common ticket scam trick is to create a web address that is similar to a well-known company”
- Use PayPal or another payment method that comes with protection
- If it’s too good to be true then it probably is. Be careful of prices that are too cheap or even too expensive
