Is Las Vegas Becoming The Sports Capital Of The World?
Is Las Vegas becoming the sports capital of the world? It’s starting to look like it is and it’s hard to dispute!
With the demolition of the Tropicana, Las Vegas is one step closer to bringing a Major League Baseball team to town. The A’s are expected to start playing in Sin City in 2028 at the site where the Tropicana used to be. It’s expected to be a massive beautiful stadium. We all know LeBron James has his eyes on an NBA team in Vegas and that’s probably not too far away!
Las Vegas Is Becoming The Sports Capital Of The World
Las Vegas is at the top of the sports world right now. It’s always been a draw for its sports gambling but now the teams in Las Vegas are getting attention and the greater sports culture within the city. The new NFL stadium is huge and impressive, the city hosted the Super Bowl in February, there are constant races, fights, hockey, basketball, and more. There’s always something!
Sure, cities like New York and Los Angeles get all the attention as major hubs and big sports towns, but are they really? In Las Vegas, you have a chance to see so many different sports and bet on them as well.
Michael Green, a history professor at the University Of Nevada, Las Vegas tells USA Today, “Historically, there was interest in sports in the community, but we had no hope of major league sports. That was partly from gambling, and partly from our own size.” However, now Las Vegas isn’t the only place you can legally gamble as it’s becoming incredibly popular across the country. The city also went through a population boom so that helped void those two potential problems. Las Vegas has come a long way in recent years within the sports community. Introducing the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the success of the team has been huge. Then, the Raiders moving from Oakland to Las Vegas certainly helped. Sin City seems to be moving on from its gambling stigma and has put it in the past while it focuses on the future.
The Golden Knights have won a Stanley Cup, the Las Vegas Aces won back-to-back championships, and we’ll see if the Raiders can eventually become contenders. It’s tough to do with the Kansas City Chiefs in the division!
